PGL Major Copenhagen 2024
First CS2 Major. NaVi 2-0’d FaZe in the final and reset the post-CS:GO meta. Historical anchor — every later Major is benchmarked against this one.
The Dude's Take
First Major of the CS2 era
Copenhagen 2024 was the benchmark event for the CS2 transition. PGL ran the same Swiss → single-elim playoff format that defined the late CS:GO Majors, which kept variance manageable and let the better roster win. NaVi were not the pre-tournament favourite — FaZe and Vitality opened shorter — but they ground through the bracket without dropping a series.
Where the books got it wrong
Pre-tournament outright on NaVi closed around +700. Anyone holding that ticket cashed. The structural mispricing was on w0nderful — at 17 years old he was a sub-15% MVP shot at the open and finished as the cleanest individual story of the event.
Sharp lesson: first Major of a new engine = AWPer-led teams over-perform. The new movement and weapon timings reward the primary information player. Bookmark this for the next engine reset.
What the bracket told us
- ▹Spirit — donk arrived. Top-4 finish flipped him from prospect to centrepiece.
- ▹FaZe — last deep Major run before the karrigan / broky split conversations started.
- ▹Vitality — ZywOo individual ceiling confirmed; structural ceiling not yet.
The cleanest Major of the CS2 era so far. Format integrity, deep field, real outright value on the eventual winner. If you missed the NaVi outright, you weren’t reading the AWP meta.
- Clean Swiss + SE format — minimal coin-flip variance
- Live odds liquidity was deep at every stage
- Produced a generational individual story (w0nderful)
- Single-elim playoffs punished BO3 outliers (FaZe deserved better)
- BLAST.tv viewer-pick maps gimmick remained off this Major (good)
